THE CHARITIES WE SUPPORT
AMCS (ABORIGINAL MOTHERS CENTRE SOCIETY)
one of the primary goals of creating Soulroots Moss art was giving back and supporting causes that were near to my heart. THE AMCS is an organization dedicated to to helping aboriginal women heal the traumas from their past, equip them with tools and skills so they can reintegrate into the community and be reunited with their children. One of the stipulations in choosing an organization was that the majority of donations were primarily going to creating services for the people in need and not administrative costs.
The ever increasing cost of rent, household expenses and childcare, has created an affordability crisis for families in our community. Basic needs like food, shelter and warmth are now in direct competition with one another. Families living in poverty are often forced to make brutal trade-offs like foregoing dinners for a week to pay the rent.
One in eight families experience food insecurity. Food banks help, but many families still depend on school breakfast, lunch and snack programs to meet their children’s baseline nutritional needs. But, these programs only exist during the week.
Families in our community are struggling to keep food on the table over the weekend. Soulroots is proud to support Backpack for Buddies and the work they are doing for our children
