Lichen takes 20 years to grow therefore the farms do not harvest more than 5% of a field at any time. Once harvested fields are left for 20 years before revisiting. The preserved plants used in our moss art are grown in controlled environments with the intention to harvest for preservation, which limits the process's impact on environment. All raw materials are transported via boat rather then airplane. All other elements incorporated in the moss art; branches, driftwood, tree bark are carefully collected from local beaches and forest with special care not to disrupt the natural ecosystem.
